TAG Heuer Servicing - Why does a Tag Heuer watch need to be serviced?
TAG Heuer watches, like most mechanical watches, require regular servicing to maintain optimal performance of the movement. That is the only way to ensure your watch keeps running for years to come.
The main reasons a watch needs servicing in the interval defined are sumarised below:
Lubrication: Over the years your watch is worn, the lubricants used within a mechanical movement can degrade or "dry" out. This can lead to increased friction between the moving parts, reduced efficiency, and even damage to the movement's components such as wheels and jewels (the stones within which the pivots of the wheels turn). Regular servicing involves ultransonic cleaning and re-lubricating the internal parts, ensuring smooth operation.
Wear and Tear: Constant use can cause natural wear and tear on the watch's components, such as wheels, springs, and jewels. Servicing addresses this by a detailed inspection for signs of wear by a specially trained watchmaker, replacing damaged parts, and ensuring that everything is functioning correctly.
Water Resistance: Rubber gaskets and seals that maintain the water resistance of a watch can deteriorate over time due to exposure to water, temperature changes, and general wear. This is comparable to rubber gaskets in a tap. Regular servicing includes testing and replacing these seals and gaskets as needed to prevent water ingress and damage to the internal components. Water ingress, especially when left for a prolonged period of time can cause significant damage to the internal components.
Accuracy: Often a watch will indicate a service is due, when it starts running erratically and the time keeping is slow. A watch's accuracy can be affected by factors like temperature changes, shock, and the natural aging of its components. The lubricants drying out is another major cause of the accuracy of the watch. Tag Heuer servicing involves adjusting the movement to ensure it keeps accurate time.
Aesthetics: Servicing also helps maintain the watch's appearance. It can involve cleaning the case, dial, and hands, removing scratches, and polishing the metal to restore its luster.
Generally, TAG Heuer recommends servicing watches every 5-6 years. However, this can vary depending on factors like usage frequency, exposure to harsh conditions, and the specific watch model. It's always best to consult with an authorized TAG Heuer service center for guidance tailored to your watch.
Watch straps: When a full service is being carried out, this is an ideal time to consider a genuine TAG Heuer strap replacement. Leather straps especially can wear from daily use, and can drastically affect the appearance of the watch.
As an authorised service centre for TAG Heuer watches we are able to undertake all TAG Heuer servicing (except for in house calibres which must be sent to TAG Heuer).
