Where did NATO straps originate from?

OMEGA NATO watch bands are an evolution of straps originally used by British pilots, navigators and army personnel during the World War Two. Usually straps are secured with spring bars, however having detachable spring bars was a risk of loosing your watch , and nato straps were the ideal solution as they were attached to watches with fixed bars often soldered to the watch casing. This reduced the chances of loosing your watch as the nato bands were created as a single piece that slide through the fixed bars.
